Sometimes going to a paragliding site is about more than the joy of flying.August 11th at Witchieknowe was one of those days.
Good flying conditions and lovely warm sunshine ensured a healthy turnout of Wingbeaters was present on the hill. A warm day, with wind often a tad too light, but always in the right direction dictated a relaxed pace for the day.
We rocked up at Witchie expecting to be there all day and we were. Apparently it was very much like the good old days with plenty of gassing on the hill as well as some nice flying. There were plenty of wings . We spent a good 90 mins ground handling the sky men in lovely gentle condirtions and Steve D had a wee fly on the green one. Dorita and Quobby looked serenely regal in their camping chairs eating their sandwiches.
A passing postie stopped for a chat . Dorita collected a few people from the bottom as it really wasn’t super lifty, but it was a special day chatting to folk and catching up and highlights one of the other aspects of this wonderful sport. Just chatting to a bunch of lovely people who also love the sport. I think in the end everyone got a decent fly as the wind finally picked up as well...A very sociable session interspersed with fun flying and groundhandling.
Steve D had his first flying experiences with a single skin Skyman.
Dudley did a great impression of a small speck high in the sky.
Tim, Ged and Derek P scored some good boating time.
Andrew gave his new AirDesign wing a good airing.
