Team Wingbeat went East on 13th September 2024 to fly a Site in the Scottish Borders called Hownam Law. Present were Tim, Alex, Ruth and I. Wind was a strongish WSW, but laminar, at lunchtime when we arrived to set up. Parking close to the top is possible and the remaining walk in unchallenging. This is a very interesting site because it is flyable from many directions and has excellent potential to launch a cross country session around the hilltops in the Cheviots.

Alex was quick to set up and first into the air. He was joined rapidly by Ruth and Graham. Tim arrived a little later and soon there were four wings sharing the lifty air. All four pilots chose to launch just below the compression at the top of the flying face and all were able to make good height above the hill and push out a long way into a large lift band. Height gains of 250 to 300 metres above the top of the hill height shows the potential the place could have on a more thermic day. There was also plenty of space in the air for each pilot.

After an extended session of exploration, the time came to land and pack up. Ruth and Alex (after some spiralling) managed to land close to the top, Graham halfway down the face and Tim had to employ big big ears to loose enough height to also touch down halfway down the face (close to the car). Many grins on faces mean that this place is likely to become a favourite in the future.
