Stupid cheap weather. Stupid cheap winter. Looked like a window of opportunity to fly at bridgend. South westish in the morning going to east North east by 3pm. Expectation was set quite low but seemed like a nice day for a walk anyway.
Morning shift checked out witchieknowe but things were not great so checked out the lunch menu at the Gordon arms.
My plan was to get to the hill for 3ish as that was when things were supposed to be working. Got to the bottom just before 3 to see very little movement on the loch but there was something starting to appear at the northern end.. Ice or gust marks. Several cars in attendance. Some hints of activity on the hill. Probably star jumps to keep warm!
Ooooh the marks are getting closer so me and Stephen headed up. Slight breeze now.
On top Gerald was ground handling (always a good sign) while everyone else was chatting (not such a good sign!) but things were picking up. maybe.
Gerald was first off. Couple of beats then landed.
Several followed. Most slope or top landing.
Arse. Getting ligher. well the wind was. Too many cakes over winter may be telling a different story...
Set up. launched. Ran halfway down the hill. stopped running and walked back up.
Only Ged, Fred and myself on the hill now. almost lobbed off but fred had noticed a bit of sun coming through. Unfortunately it seemed to match the null / catabatic breeze. Doh! shouldn't have waited.
Forward launch attempt 1 worked. very fast flight down the hill but it WAS FLYING! ohh and landing too.
Ged walked down while fred had a tailwind forward launch and fly down too.
The day matched my low expectations perfectly. I got out of the house, practiced light wind reverse and forward launches, flew and was home in time for tea!
