What a nice day to be out on the hills. The big yellow ball thingy in the sky was nice and warm (must google what that was).
It was on and cycling when we arrived. There was another pilot setting up in the bowel with the hangies. He did a short flight/hop down to us. Quobby took off and headed to the bowl where he slope landed and had a good long wait while we all watched Dee thermaling away on her own. Quobby and Dorita followed. Dorita had some nice climbs too. Quobby got a good climb just near where dee got some big sink which decked her (she said something about quobby wearing out the thermal.) Dorita took a long ride to the farm and quobby decked down near the quarry. I played quad driver and rounded them all up as Alasitair and Dave Hutchinson came up. The day was looking too good so I set up just in time for the lull.
When the NW breeze came I took a punt and headed for the bowl.Me dave and Alistair were in the air together for a while. Also one of them fancy pants stiffy hangies.
Following a line of lift I was rewarded with a slopey climb until it straightened up when it got above hill height. 3mps steady climb was a relief after the thready thermals low down.
At 500ft below airspace I left the thermal and headed towards Peebles. I got some lift along the way but I suspect I just missed the timing. All the birds were flapping as i ran up the valley along the a72. Just as I was committed to the landing they all started thermaling. Bastards.
Great day. Yet another day when the Mentor has taken me flying. I am seriously just the dope on a rope with that wing. It is always telling me where to go for lift "It's over there dickhead". (the wing speaks Aussie). If I just do as I am told I get a good flight.
Hope you all had as much fun.
cheers
Steve
