When we were up at Witchieknowe the other day Tommy said that he wasn't so fussed about bringing in the New Year these days and wanted a quiet one. I guess it was quite quiet by the time the bells came but the build up wasn't quite what he (or Fiona) wanted...

-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: Wrecked Date: 2015-12-30 21:34 From: 'Dudley' To: "wingbeat" Hi folks Just had a long chat with Tommy, Paragliding kit is OK, Dogs are OK Family are OK but there’s a lot of mud and debris to move around the outside of Craighill. For those of you that know it the structure of the house is OK but the kitchen, bathroom and room with the rayburn are in need of major loving care!!!!! If anyone fancies heading up to give a hand on Thursday they would be welcome – shovels and wellies are a must just to try and help clear up before the insurance assessors can start their job. Tommy and family are still living there since the bedrooms and best room are OK, still have electricity but not water at present. If you fancy a day out can you make sure you are self-sufficient for food etc. I intend to leave here around 9am for a day’s labouring. Dudley
Thursday morning - Craighill.
Lots of Wingbeat guys, neighbors and friends turned up to lend a hand with the clean up operation.
The main tasks for the day were :
- Clear the debris from behind the house - Done by 11.30
- Find the water pipe connection from the hill and hook up a replacement pipe - Done by 14:30
- Fix the corner of the roof - Done by 15:00
- Raeburn back up and running - Done once the water was back on.
Other minor tasks...
Find out what caused things in the first place.. A quad bike trip up the valley confirmed that a landslide up by the water meeting bit about a mile up stream.
There was a brown 'tide' mark showing how the water and debris had sloshed down the valley.
Throw stones in the water to attempt to divert the stream away from the exposed banking.
Shelter from the rain, snow and sleet.
Push a badly driven blue SEAT Leon out of the mud (Derek did the driving... Logan did the pushing)
Once the bits that could be done were done people started heading home.
Tommy and Fiona were then going to concentrate on getting the inside tidied up once they had hot water and the building was safe
It was great to see so many people turn up to help.
