After much debate the decision was made to go to the dunes on the east coast just north of Dunbar. The forecast was for 8-10mph NE winds so it should have been smack on the dunes. I have visited this place many times but had not flown it as the conditions were not right.
I arrived at 11:30 and found the wind on the face and a bit lighter than expected. Having resurrected my Carbon and an old advance harness I was still setting my kit up when Rob, Dudley and Tommy arrived. Tommy suggested we move further along the dune to the north an area where there was no prickly bushes to land into. We were soon joined by Andrew Brunton. Once along the other end kit was set up on the top of the dune in the waist high grass, which surprisingly didn't cause too many issues with snagging lines.
Rob set up initially on the upper sand hoping to try to improve on his previous Dune Du Pyla attempt to see how many kg of sand he could get into his glider, but the boomerangs inlets being smaller than normal gliders meant he failed to beat his previous record. Due to the light wind various attempts were made, to get into the air but it was really too light to make any real attempt at soaring. Tommy flew along the face but went down onto the beach after turning round.
I was time limited as I had to be in Glasgow that evening so had to leave early.
The breeze did seem to be increasing just as I left and the rest stayed to see if it would become soarable They will have to finish this log off as to whether it was or not.
Nice weather but we probably would have been better to have gone here on Saturday when the forecast wind strength was higher.
I will have to wait for another day to fly this site.
